Experimental Theology: The Passionate Man Often Thinks Evil of a Good Man...

Read this this morning and reflected both on myself and others in my sphere.  It caught my attention because I consider myself a passionate man. needless to say I had reason to ponder. Then I got down to the description of a man who is agitated by evil so he points out the problems he sees in others. I know that man.

Experimental Theology: The Passionate Man Often Thinks Evil of a Good Man...: Above all things, keep peace within yourself, then you will be able to create peace among others. It is better to be peaceful than learned. ...

Catching up on movies

Over the break the family went to see "Zootopia" for the second time. Yes, it is that good.

2016 Movie #9

Then last night we went a saw "Allegiant" based on the third book in the Divergent series.  The popcorn was good and some of the sci-fi ideas of the future were cool, but not a great movie.  Would not see it again. But I read the books so......

I give it **stars. 2016 Movie #10

bad but funny

10 Cloverfield Lane & Zootopia

Two completely different movies done with great skill:

10 Cloverfield Lane is something Hitchcock would do but in this case it is J.J.Abrams.  This is a tense and captivating story about three people in a bunker.  One person is in control. Question: Is he keeping them safe from some kind of world attack OR is he holding the other two captive for he on sorted devices. Evidence shows both possibilities and you the viewer don't know any more than the captives, UNTIL THE CLIMAX.

Great story starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Bradley Cooper.

Great Everything: I give it ****stars.   2016 movie #8

Zootopia is a movie in the realm of Cars where there are no humans just animals that act as humans. This ranks with any animated movie.  The story is about inclusion and treating all types of beings the same. In other words Mr. Trump would not like it. This is great for all ages. Highly Recommend.

I give it ****1/2 stars. 2016 movie #9

Our House of Cards

I'm watching the new season of "House of Cards" on Netflix. It is great drama but also like watching a train wreck. The title is so spot on.

Kevin Spacey (Frank Underwood) is running for re-election as president in 2016.
It is devious, back stabbing, lie spreading, degrading and all with a smile. It is politics uncovered.
It is Hollywood too but as Kevin Spacey said in an interview on of all things "Meet the Press", this season was filmed last year and they found it odd that most of their storylines are playing out today.
When asked how Frank Underwood would stack up against Donald Trump in a debate, he said, "That's an interesting idea but you see both characters are fictitious."

Experimental Theology: Fragile Worshipers

Experimental Theology: Fragile Worshipers: I used to be a fragile worshiper. I'd go to church and there would always be something that set me off. Sometimes it would be a song...

My worlds collide: Movies and Church

In April and May I will preside over an adult class on Sunday Morning called: "Movies, Jesus and Life".   I am taking the themes of the eight best picture nominees and applying them to our lives when compared the Jesus' teachings.  I hope to show the trailers of each movie, talk about it's theme and then go for it.  Remember "Spotlight" is about abuse in the Church; "Room" is about living with a limited point of view, "Martian" is about not only survival but being left for dead and "Brooklyn" is about being torn between two words. "Revenant" is about revenge AND coming back from the dead.
We will discuss "Mad Max", the "Big Short" and  "Bridge of Spies" from Jesus' point of view.

I have been dwelling on this for some time. Hope it works.  Might be my first R class!

Triple 9 and popcorn

Needed a movie and popcorn yesterday to get the day off my mind. I went to see "Triple 9" only because it has a great cast of actors (Casey Affleck, Aaron Paul, Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor) Rent it.  It is a good story about bad cops and bad Russian Mob. There is one good guy in the bunch. Much profanity and violence. Better Popcorn!

2016 Movie #7  I give it **1/2 stars
